It' s very difficult even impossible to insert in a web site the main part of Languedoc - Roussillon and Provence megalithism.
There are too much sites in these regions to make a satisfactory and exhaustive panorama of it. The most plausible figure seems to be about 1700 megaliths.
The biggest concentrations are situated on the limestone plateaus of Hérault and Gard (Causses of Larzac and Blandas), in the "Garrigues" of Hérault and Gard, in the Cévennes of the department of Gard, on Causse of Minerve between Aude and Hérault, in oriental Provence and finally in mountains passes of Oriental Pyrenées and Ariège.
The department of Lozère (about 350 dolmens & 350 menhirs) depends on the region Languedoc - Roussillon but seen its megalithic wealth was treated in part (with the department of Ardèche - more than 800 dolmens) on the web site http://dolmen1.free.fr
If the dolmens with simple plan prevail, there are also numerous passage tombs and numerous menhirs.
Languedoc - Roussillon is also a country which counts very big monuments among the biggest of France as the dolmen of Morrel das Fadas ("the hillside of the fairies"), 25 metres long, Counozouls menhir which approaches the 9 metres tall and many others so impressive.
In Provence, we can't forget the unique Fontvieille's undergound hypogeums
Let's discover now pages after pages some of these prehistoric monuments among the most significant in every geographic region.
Have a good megalithic stroll
